Unexciting, Uninspiring, Unadventurous. Did you even watch Fifty Shades of Grey?
Vanilla is a testimony of young womanhood as we try to navigate our way in the land of the (sexually) free, walking the fine line of pleasure, pain, and the fear of being boring.
Through spoken word, song, and verbatim we explore the performance of sex, from our influence of porn to the blurred lines of consent, and the difficulty of setting boundaries both in and outside of the bedroom. Is being Vanilla really an insult, or are we just afraid of the ordinary?
Ticket includes a PANEL DISCUSSION to follow the show.
‘How can theatre and the arts authentically represent the diverse experiences of women and foster meaningful conversations about sex, fertility, and femininity? Is this enough?’
Panelists Jodie Kindell (Fur Coat No Knickers), Charlotte Snow (Fur Coat No Knickers) and Georgia Tillery Randak (Black Sheep Collective) will share insights into how these themes are currently being addressed in the arts, the challenges of breaking away from stereotypical portrayals, and the role of intersectionality in ensuring that all women’s voices are heard. The discussion will also consider how these representations can challenge societal norms and encourage broader conversations about gender, identity, and the female experience.
